A 31-year-old youth Chief, Mohammed Fuseini in the Kakpagyili has been remanded into police custody by a Tamale District Court Two presided over his Worship, Augustine Essah for allegedly supervising instance justice being meted out to three suspects.
The three suspects were arrested by the citizens last Friday at Kobilmahigu for allegedly stealing cattle. The suspects according to the police were taken to the youth chief’s house where they were subjected to all kinds of inhuman treatment.
One of the suspects, Issahak Abdul Rauf aged 25 collapsed as a result of the severe beatings he received and later died at Tamale Teaching Hospital. The Kakpagyili youth was provisionally charged with murder of the deceased, Abdul Rauf.
Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer has this to say about the incident. The police PRO said even though citizens have the power of arrest, it does not give them the rights to be judges at their communities.
Two of the suspects who are Fulani by extraction had their pleas taken and were accordingly granted court enquiry bail with the sum of 30 thousand Ghana cedis and will appear 28 0f this month.
