A Member of Parliament Hopeful for the Walewale Constituency, Hajia Lariba Abudu has told delegates in the constituency that she is the only candidate among her contenders who is more connected am a better lobbyist who can ensure the needed development in the constituency.
The Deputy Northern Development Authority (NDA) Chief Executive Officer who on Thursday, February 20, 2020, successfully filed to contest the incumbent MP in the Walewale and five others believe she is the right candidate who can rally the majority of constituents to vote massively for the NPP.
Asked why she is contesting the incumbent, Dr. Sagre Bambangi who won the seat from the NDC in 2012, Hajia Lariba said “although Dr. Sagre has done his part for the constituency, that is woefully inadequate to better the lives of the constituents and amongst all my contenders, I am the homegirl, I know the terrain”.
“I am a woman who has the lobbying skills and the connection to the right quarters to drive the development of my constituency and better the lives of constituents” Hajia Lariba stated.
Speaking to North Star news, the former presiding officer of the West Mumprusi District Assembly pledged to set up an MPs Constituency Office for constituents to channel their grievances for address. She added she will build the capacities of constituency executives to empower them to work to make the party attractive to all and sundry and make the constituency an NPP stronghold.
Hajia Lariba Abudu at the party’s constituency office also pledged to embark on a decent campaign that will ensure unity before, during and after the April 25th Parliamentary primaries of the NPP.
On his part, the Constituency Secretary of the NPP in Walewale, Alhaji Baba Yidana appealed to Hajia Lariba to concentrate her campaign on delegates who will decide her fate and urged her work with her contenders should she be elected the candidate. He also admonished her to support any candidate who is elected to represent the party in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
Hajia Lariba Abudu in 2016 contested the incumbent and lost to him with a vote margin of 7. Her campaign team is however of the opinion that the incumbent is now unpopular to the majority of voters in the area hence the urgent need to replace him with Hajia Lariba to better the fortunes of the Party in the constituency.
Hundreds of party supporters, polling station executives and some electoral areas coordinators in the constituency escorted Hajia Lariba to file her nomination form. Some of them who spoke to North Star news endorsed Hajia Lariba saying she had been with them in time of challenges and happiness and that she can best represent them in Parliament.
By the close of nomination yesterday, out of the seven persons who have picked the forms to contest the Walewale Constituency, six had successful filed.
