Mohammed Talhatu, 21, a student of the Bole Senior High School (BOSEC), who was among five persons shot by armed robbers on the Sawla-Fulfulso-Tamale, has died at the Damongo Hospital in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region.

The bullet hit the liver and intestines which caused severe bleeding.

Even though residents in the area voluntarily donated blood to save him, doctors and nurses at the health facility could not do so due to the profuse bleeding.

Information gathered that about six robbers mounted a road block at Janukura along the Sawla-Fulfulso Road in the Central Gonja District and attacked people onboard about 11 buses.

During the robbery, the armed robbers fired at incoming vehicles and in the process shot five persons.

The armed robbers succeeded in robbing passengers of their valuables.

The injured persons were rushed to some health facilities while others were transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of West Gonja District, Saaed Jibreal, called on community members in the area to volunteer information to the police to assist them to arrest the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the armed robbers in the area.

The police in the area, however, lamented about the lack of resources to effectively carry out their duties in the area, adding that the Sawla-Fulfulso Road is about 149 kilometres which will require adequate resources to tackle crime.
